Over the past 15 or so years, the Vancouver Branch of the World Ship Society has accumulated a sizeable collection of maritime books, most of which are available to members at the monthly meetings. These books cover both merchant and naval subjects, shipping company histories and other non-fiction titles. Books can be "borrowed" from the library at one of our meetings, and returned at the next meeting. There is no charge for this service. Our Librarian will record the book(s) you wish to borrow and you can read them at your leisure.
Whether your interest is in the great passenger ships of the world, local maritime history or naval matters, there must be a number of books that would make for good bed-time reading. Next time you attend one of our monthly meetings, check with our Librarian, Bill Etchell, for a listing of books that can be borrowed.
Most of the books that we have in our Lending Library were donated to the Vancouver Branch by members, or were included as a donation from the estate of a passed member. If you would like to donate any maritime books to our Lending Library, contact our Librarian to find out how to go about it, and what books would be suitable. We are severely constrained by lack of space for the books, so we will not accept duplicates or books not deemed to be of interest to our members. However, these books can be donated to us with the understanding that we can either sell the books to raise funds for the branch operations, or they can be donated by us to other worthy organisations, such as the Vancouver Maritime Museum or other local libraries or museums.
Have a look at the books in our Lending Library next time you attend one of our Branch meetings. You never know -- you may become a bookworm!
